This is an interesting question and one I ask of myself. There are 2 questions here, so I will give my own view on each, if that's okay.
Living things seem to differ radically from inert objects and matter. in many ways, all living things share some common traits: they react with their external world in ways to avoid death and to continue their survival; they feel pain; they reproduce. The degree of awareness in each living thing differs from chemical reaction at the lowest end to cognitive perception at the upper end - still chemically mobilised though.
Likewise, emotions and instincts are really two words meaning the same thing, but we humans describe 'instinct' as though it were driven internally by chemistry and innate programming, and we prescribe emotion as something higher than that as though it were intellectually modified, as indeed it may well be.
So my answer is: all living things are part of the Universe's quest to realise itself and reshape itself. So yes, all living things and their sense of joy, pain, sadness, or pleasure are part of the final resolution.
my kind regards mol
